'Get your order in': Warning over repeat prescriptions deadline before Christmas and New Year
Patients are being warned to get their repeat prescriptions ordered before the Christmas rush 💊
- Pharmacists are warning patients to order their repeat prescriptions.
- The NHS is already feeling the pressure this year thanks to rising flu cases.
- Patients are being urged to make sure they have enough medication to get them through the festive season.
With the holiday season around the corner, many GP surgeries and pharmacies are preparing for the Christmas rush.
The NHS is already feeling the pressure, as flu cases continue to surge with “no peak in sight”.
Patients are being urged to check if they have enough medication to get them through the festive period and to order their repeat prescriptions in time. Falling behind on a repeat prescription not only puts patients at risk but also unnecessarily puts pressure on NHS services.
GP practices and most pharmacies will be closed during the bank holidays over Christmas and New Year, with pharmacists warning patients to get their orders in before the holidays.
When to order prescriptions before Christmas?
Patients are being asked to check they have enough medication to last them over the festive period, as GP surgeries and pharmacies will be closed.
If you need to order a prescription, it’s recommended you do it sooner rather than later to avoid the Christmas rush, with patients being asked by the NHS to order repeat prescriptions by December 10.
If you find yourself unwell over Christmas, your local pharmacy is there for you. Claire Nevinson, Superintendent Pharmacist at Boots, said: “If you’re feeling under the weather or need access to healthcare over the festive holiday, our pharmacy teams are on hand to help. It’s quick and easy to get advice, diagnosis and treatment for common minor ailments from your Boots pharmacy team right on your local high street, with no appointment needed.”
If you get prescriptions through Boots Prescription Plus, the latest date to order by is slightly later.
Claire explained: “If you are on repeat prescriptions, it’s important to ensure that you have ordered your medication before the Christmas break. It’s easy to order and track delivery of prescriptions with Boots PrescriptionsPlus – just make sure you get your order in before December 17 to ensure you get your medicines in time for the festive period, especially if you are travelling.”
The last thing you want is to run out of medication over Christmas. You can find out more about ordering repeat prescriptions on NHS.UK.
