'Bring back the family doctor': Husband-and-wife who set up GP in their garden open new surgery in Fareham

A husband and wife team are opening a new GP surgery to give patients better access to appointments when they need one.
Dr Hayley Cousins and her husband Justin opened The Coastal Private GP and Aesthetics service in Warsash in 2022, after noticing a change in how care is delivered in recent years - and now they are opening a new surgery in Fareham.
“We wanted to offer the birth-to-grave care we used to provide,” said Dr Cousins.
“The heart of what we really offer is a doctor who knows you, and who you can speak to when you need to. We wanted to bring back the family doctor, bring back that traditional doctor-patient relationship,” she said.
The couple, who both met while serving in the military, started the business in their own back garden. They began seeing a small number of private patients, before expanding into a premises in Warsash.
From there, the business went from strength to strength, and they started operating pop-up clinics at Southampton’s Utilita Bowl. In 2025, they had over 5000 appointments with patients, offering same and next-day private GP appointments, health screening, menopause care, weight management, dermatology and minor surgery.
“People travel from all over to see us, including more and more people from Fareham,” said operational manager Justin Cousins.
“What we thought was going to be a small business has really grown, we wanted to open somewhere in Fareham to be closer to our patients.
“We have converted an office building in Cams Estate into a new private GP clinic, and we’ve created a few new jobs as well.
“We have eight GPs working for us, and we cherry-pick the best ones from the area!”
The Fareham surgery will offer same-day, appointments, blood tests and health screening and ultrasound screenings, alongside other services.
Dr Cousins describes the services offered at The Coastal Private GP and Aesthetics as “an addition to your NHS GP”.
“It’s something that you have on top of your NHS GP, it doesn’t have to replace it. We can refer privately or into the NHS, whatever works for the patient.”
“A lot of people don't realise that there is another way to get a GP appointment without having to fight for one,” she said.
The new Fareham office will officially open on October 2. Current patients of The Coastal Private GP and Aesthetics will be able to visit the Fareham branch. You can find out more about the services available here.
