Portsmouth Film Society changes cinema screenings as tier three restrictions threaten financial ruin
A FILM society has changed its community cinema screenings for this weekend, as it is set to lose thousands of pounds due to tier 3 restrictions.
Portsmouth Film Society had planned to hold screenings at the Pyramids leisure centre across this weekend – but with Portsmouth being moved into tier three on Saturday, the line-up has been changed.
On Friday, December 18 at 5pm, the society will still be showing The Muppet Christmas Carol.

Following this will be a screening of It’s Wonderful Life, starting at 7pm.
Aysegul Epengin, a co-ordinator with the society, said: ‘With Portsmouth moved to the tier three Covid restrictions, our last screenings will be on December 18.
‘(It’s A Wonderful Life) was originally planned for December 19, because this film is popular, we decided to show it on Friday.’
The society had previously planned to show Emma this Friday, with Tenet, Military Wives, and The Empire Strikes Back screening over the weekend.
With these showings now cancelled, the cinema is set to lose thousand of pounds, according to Aysegul.
She added: 'We have lost a lot of money.
'Financially, it could break us.
'We were going to be very busy – it's so frustrating, and I am so disappointed.’
The cinema is able to use the Pyramids until March, and hopes to screen its cancelled films in the new year.
Tickets can be purchased at southseacinema.co.uk/our-last-screenings, and refunds for cancelled shows will be processed automatically.
