Portsmouth coronavirus cases rise to 24 in one week ahead of sunny weekend

THE number of people testing positive for coronavirus in Portsmouth is continuing to rise.

Latest figures from the government show that in the week up to September 7, a further 24 people were found to have Covid-19 in the city.

As a rate per 100,000 people, it’s a jump from 7.0 last week to 11.2.

The news comes ahead of what is expected to be a decent weekend in terms of weather, sparking concern that the rate could increase further.

In Bolton, 462 new cases were recorded in the seven days to September 7 – the equivalent of 160.7 per 100,000 people. This is the highest rate in England.

Birmingham has the second highest rate, up from 32.0 to 85.4 with 975 new cases.

The data was calculated by the PA news agency and is based on Public Health England data published earlier today.
