Face masks become mandatory in Hampshire shops from today
THE mandatory wearing of face coverings has come into force today (July 24) for people in enclosed public spaces.
Places where masks are required include supermarkets, indoor shopping centres, transport hubs, banks and takeaways. Police can hand out fines of up to £100 to those who do not comply.
While some retail outlets have said they will not challenge customers who do not wear a mask the health secretary, Matt Hancock, has urged the public to ‘play their part’ by following the new regulation.
Mr Hancock said: ‘As we move into the next stage of easing restrictions for the public, it is vital we continue to shop safely so that we can make the most of our fantastic retail industry this summer.’

A number of shopping outlets in Portsmouth and the surrounding area have said they will be encouraging shoppers to wear masks but said it will be difficult to enforce.
Face coverings will not need to be worn by children under the age of 11 or people with certain health conditions.
