Coronavirus infection rate in Portsmouth almost at 100 as cases rise
THE rate of coronavirus infections in Portsmouth has almost reached a three-digit figure.
Latest statistics released by the government show the rolling seven-day rate of infections in the city, as well as the total number of new cases.
The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

In Portsmouth, there have been 214 new Covid-19 cases over the seven-day period up to October 11 – an infection rate of 99.6.
The leader of Portsmouth City Council, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, has called for a ‘circuit-breaker’ with a two-week national lockdown.
Labour MP for Portsmouth South, Stephen Morgan, has also called for contact tracing to be placed into the hands of local authorities.
He said: ‘The government should look at the science, follow our call to bring in a circuit break and transfer control of contact tracing to local authorities, so that we can better protect people’s lives and livelihoods.
‘Transferring this control on a local level to Portsmouth is crucial if we are to see the Government get a grip on this crisis and save people’s lives.’
