Specialist provision for autistic children to open this September after taking over former Kingscourt School site
Tailored support will be central at a new school for autistic children, which is set to open this year after taking over the former Kingscourt School.
Kingscourt School, in Catherington, announced its closure at the end of August 2025 following a consultation period amid declining birth rates and school admissions.
At the end of last year, the Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) confirmed it would be taking over the site, with plans to expand its specialist education provision for children and young people with an autism diagnosis.

The school, which has been developed in response to a growing demand for specialist education settings, will educate children aged between 11 to 16, and is set to open its doors this September.
Chris Welham, CEO of Licensed Trade Charity Education Group, said: “LTC has recently acquired the former Kingscourt School in Catherington and we will be reopening this school as Kennington School in September this year.
“Kennington School will be a specialist school for autistic children built around a clear understanding of the individual needs of each pupil and giving them the tailored support they need to thrive.”
Kennington will have small classes of up to eight students to ensure they receive appropriate support, with each space being carefully designed to feel “calm and uncluttered”.
Chris added: “At LTC, we believe that every young person with autism deserves a place where they feel truly understood and supported.
“It is our experience of owning and operating two other specialist schools in Hassocks and Oxford ensures that we can transform the lives and unleash the potential of more young people at Kennington School.”
The school will be hosting a range of open days which will take place between 10.30am and 12noon. The open days are as follows:
- Wednesday, April 8
- Thursday, April 30
- Tuesday, May 12
- Monday, May 18
