Releasing Potential School praised by Ofsted for clear progress as it jumps from requires improvement rating to good
Staff at a special education school are ‘pleased’ at securing a positive Ofsted outcome after emerging from a ‘difficult position’.
Releasing Potential School, located in Kingscroft Court, Havant, has been described as a ‘highly inclusive school’ where pupils benefit from disrupted learning.

The latest Ofsted inspection, which took place between September 16 and 18, has highlighted that the school has ‘established a carefully planned transition process’, and has made significant progress since its last visit.

This comes after the school was previously graded ‘requires improvement’ at its inspection last year after Ofsted found students needed to deepen their knowledge.
The most recent Ofsted, which was published on November 10, says: “Relationships between staff and pupils are a key strength of the school. Adults use these positive relationships to build trust and to help pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need for lifelong learning and future employment.
“The school’s carefully considered curriculum enables pupils to learn at a pace suited to individual needs and starting points. The focus on outdoor education and learning in the outside environment is pivotal to the school’s success.
Mike King, chief executive officer, said: “We pleased that Releasing Potential has been officially awarded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in recognition of the education we provide.
The inspection found that there is a clear vision for the future, and the curriculum is now well sequenced and identifies what pupils need to achieve.
Expectations at the school are high and teachers understand that it is important for students to communicate and read properly by the time they leave the setting.
The report added: “There is a cohesive personal and social development programme. This helps pupils to build resilience, determination and independence. The school is keen to broaden pupils’ horizons through trips, activities and visitors.”
Mike added: “We have emerged from a difficult position as an organisation to become a school whose ‘good’ practice enables marginalised children to access education and contribute to society.
“I am very grateful for the support of the trustees and governors and the senior leaders and staff who represented Releasing Potential so positively during the inspection.”
The safeguarding measures are effective and there is a strong culture of keeping pupils safe.
