Priory School Culture Day 2026 sees pupils come together to celebrate all aspects of the community

Students and staff celebrate the diverse cultures in their community

A school in Southsea has celebrated its annual Culture Day giving pupils a chance to learn about and celebrate the diversity in their community.

Speaking on the day, Lucy Bradshaw, a PE Teacher at Priory School, said: “The culture day is something that was asked for by the pupils, they were really keen for it. This is our second year of doing it. We have a lot of different cultures in our community that are all represented here today.

“We have so much on offer from Maypole workshops, African mask painting workshops, samba bands, steel pan band workshops, we have a culture fair and food tasting with the likes of Natty’s Jerk coming in today, there is so much going on.”

A number of stalls were set up by students giving them a chance to tell their fellow students about their cultures, with many also donning traditional clothes.

For Lucy, Culture Day is a chance for the school to come together and celebrate each other. She said: “The pupils have responded to it fantastically, they are excited with lots of people coming in in traditional dress and they are really happy to come and celebrate as a community.

“It is really important, especially as it is something that students have asked for. They contribute towards it, they organise it, they have their own ownership of the day. It brings the school together for something as a whole.”
