Portsmouth school closed today as a result of ‘extreme heat’
High temperatures has seen one Portsmouth school close today
A Portsmouth school is closed today (July 8) as a result of ‘extreme heat’
The Mary Rose Academy, a special school for children aged two to 19, has closed all three of its site (Compass, Craneswater and Lantern) as a result of the increasing temperatures which are expected to hit 30 degrees later this week.
It is the only school in Portsmouth listed as being closed on the Portsmouth City Council website, with no schools reported to be closed across Southampton or the rest of Hampshire on either of their official websites.

It follows the mass closures and partial closures of schools across Hampshire two weeks ago as a result of the rocketing temperatures which saw the Met Office issue a red heat alert.
Meanwhile a Heat Health alert remains in place this week across Hampshire as a result of the ongoing heatwave.
The alert said: “High pressure is currently most likely to dominate England through at least the early part of this period, if not for the entirety of next week. Lots of dry and fine weather, with increasing temperatures, becoming widely very warm or hot. Low impact temperature thresholds likely to be reached for many if not all parts, perhaps reaching Medium impact thresholds across the south and east.”
However temperatures are not expected to hit the heights of last week which resulted in a red heat warning being issued by the Met Office.
