Plans for Welborne's first primary school set to be given the green light

It is the first of four schools planned for the new town

Plans for Welborne Garden Village’s first primary school are set to be approved, creating hundreds of places for children in the new community.

The school would provide 420 places for pupils aged four to 11, along with a specialist unit for up to 10 children with social, emotional and mental health needs or autism.

Hampshire County Council planning officers have recommended approval for the new school ahead of the regulatory committee meeting on Wednesday, September 16.

It would be the first of three primary schools planned for the new ‘eco town’ Welborne, the major development north of Fareham, which will also include a secondary school, shops, healthcare facilities and other community services.

The school would open gradually, starting with Reception pupils before adding new year groups as more families move into the area.

Older primary-age children living at Welborne would continue attending Orchard Lea Infant and Junior Schools until the new school expands.

The two-storey building would include classrooms, outdoor play areas, sports pitches and parking.

Once fully open, it is expected to have around 51 staff, including teachers, support staff and those working in the specialist provision.

The application will be decided by the county council’s regulatory committee on Wednesday.
