Little Explorers pre-school in Gosport under fire from Ofsted once again

The nursery terminated more than 40 pre-school places in April this year.

A nursery that terminated the places of dozens of pre-schoolers has still not improved, according to Ofsted.

In April this year, The News reported that children heading to primary school in September were kicked out of Little Explorers Nursery and Pre-School. The nursery, in Heritage Way, Gosport, was subject to an Ofsted investigation, which found safeguarding failures, health and safety concerns, and special educational needs not being met.

This led to a welfare notice being issued for the nursery, to which the response was the ending of 42 children’s pre-school places with immediate effect, leaving parents scrambling to find alternative childcare arrangements.

On July 2, Ofsted made another regulatory visit to Little Explorers, and has once again enforced a welfare notice after finding multiple failings.

A report from the education watchdog read: “We found the provider was not meeting some of the requirements. We have served a welfare requirements notice.

“This is a legal notice that requires the provider to take the actions below within the timescales set out. The provider will be able to give parents further information about this.

“We will monitor the provider's response to ensure the actions are successfully completed. The provider is still registered with Ofsted.”

By July 16, Little Explorers is required to ensure that leaders with governance demonstrate a clear knowledge and understanding of their roles and responsibilities and have sufficient oversight across the setting, as well as ensure staff have a secure understanding of the setting's accident and injury procedures, and these are followed consistently.

According to parents who have got in touch with The News, the latest inspection came after further complaints were lodged against the nursery.

One, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “From what I heard from others, there have been a couple of incidents where the staff just haven’t handled things correctly.

“It’s understandable to a certain extent, because the staff turnover at Little Explorers has been mental. They’ve had to bring in agency staff because so many others have left.”

The staff - and children - who left Little Explorers held a graduation party together in June, organised by former staff member Lizzie Featherstone.
