A TEAM of children have been building their way to success after taking part in a national Lego league competition.

The event, in December, saw students from The Cowplain School show their Lego engineering talents at Legoland Windsor.

Designed to promote STEM (Science, Technology, engineering and maths) learning the pupils faced a number of challenges designed to test their skills of innovation and construction. The pupils had to design and make their own Lego themed robot to overcome a series of technical tests.

The team of four students - Raizel Nunez, Josephine (Josie) Spicer, Evie Taylor, and Alex Curphey, along with their EV3 Brick robot design called ‘Baby’ - competed under the theme ‘How did we get here?’.

The day consisted of a series of challenges and presentations to showcase the EV3 design. For their hard work and honesty about the challenges they had faced, the team received the Judges’ Award.

Josie said, ‘It was fun and interesting watching how other teams solved the issues and using that during our test time to improve our solutions.’

The day also tested the students on the Lego leagues first core value of teamwork.

‘It has helped me work with other people and be able to see everyone’s strength within a group,’ commented Josie.

The team now hopes to be able to compete in the league again next year and to do even better.
