Anxiety turned to jubilation for many students at HSDC this morning as the college revealed half the students achieved grades B to A*.
After weeks of nervously awaiting results, there was a swarm of activity at the Havant campus on Thursday, August 13 for A-level results release day. For many it was a morning of celebration with 97 per cent of students across HSDC getting into their first choice of university, which is over 600 students, and one in five achieving A or A* grades.
Kurt Hintz, principal at HSDC said: “We are really proud of our results overall for our students, both in A-levels and our level three results for T-levels. Lots of great high grades and many of our students going onto their first choice of university while some are going on to apprenticeships and others straight into employment. We are really proud of our students and staff.
“There has been some great improvements and high grades, in T-levels especially, but this is a high-performing college so it is good to see that is continuing this year again.”
The principal of all three college sites in Havant, Alton and Waterlooville praised the hard work of students and staff. He said: “I would like to thank our staff and students for all of the efforts that they have put in the last couple of years in getting these great results. It is their dedication and commitment that really drives the success.
“To see that resilience coming out of our students, they have often had pretty difficult periods with them going through the pandemic and having a mixed school experience so to see them come out the other end with great results and heading onto their next destination is great news.”
One such student who got the results they wanted was Maya Hill, 18, who got A, A and A* in geography, chemistry and biology respectively. She now will choose between a four year masters in geography at East Anglia University or a BSc in the same subject at Aberystwyth University.
She said: “I was feeling very nervous ahead of this morning but I am really happy now and relieved.”
Rhys Andrews, 18, said with tongue in cheek that he was a “little bit disappointed” to miss out on his predicted clean sweep of A*s with one of the three dropping to an A. The results mean that he will be heading to the University of Surrey to read physics.
He said: “The last two weeks have felt long but today went quickly and I’m really happy overall.”
Katy Parlett, 18, is heading to Wetherspoons to celebrate after getting an A, B and two Cs meaning she is heading to Winchester University to study education with a specialty in SEN as she aims to become a teacher in the future.
She said: “I am beyond chuffed and I can’t wait for the next adventure. I have enjoyed every minute at HSDC.”
