The report indicated the school is working at a strong standard in all areas except achievement which is at the expected standard.

The findings, which were published at the end of July, said: “Pupils come to school each day and ‘dream big’. They demonstrate this shared ethos through their positive attitudes and the pride they take in being part of the school community. Pupils feel safe and well cared for.

“Leaders have a clear and accurate understanding of the school’s strengths and use this to drive continuous improvement. They have established well-considered systems to monitor and evaluate the school’s work. Leaders draw on a wide range of evidence, including published outcomes and pupil voice.”

Management also build effective relationships with staff, parents, pupils and governors which reinforces a positive culture in the school community.

Attendance is a priority amongst staff and leadership, and there is a “well-organised” approach to ensuring children attend regularly. There is tailored support in place for students who face barriers and leaders use information to identify patterns of absence. This helps them work alongside parents and students to improve attendance.

Behaviour is consistently positive which helps create calm and purposeful teaching. The report also highlighted there is a well-sequenced curriculum that clearly identifies what content needs to be learnt, with teachers continuously checking understanding.

Councillor Juliet Henderson, Hampshire County Council's executive member for education, said: "On behalf of Hampshire County Council, I would like to congratulate everyone at Purbrook Junior School on this positive Ofsted outcome. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the school's leaders, teachers and support staff, together with the support of governors, parents, carers and the wider school community.

“We thank all those involved for their continued commitment to ensuring Hampshire's children and young people receive the best possible education and opportunities to succeed."

The inspection continued: “Leaders have established a highly inclusive culture. Staff identify pupils’ needs quickly and address them effectively. Staff use a systematic approach to assessment, supported by regular ‘Every Child Counts’ meetings with senior leaders.

“Staff are well trained and understand the needs of pupils in this school. They adapt teaching effectively so that pupils with SEND learn alongside their peers. In lessons, teachers apply strategies confidently and adjust them when needed.”

The inspection found the safeguarding measures have been met.
