Havant and South Downs College teenagers capture life in lockdown as part of national photography exhibition
THREE photography students from Havant and South Downs College have been capturing what life has been like in lockdown for young people.
The photographs have formed part of a national online exhibition entitled At Home which depicts how life has changed since the escalation of the coronavirus pandemic.
Student, Alice Wilkinson, named her image Per Aspera ad Astra after the Latin 'through hardships to the stars'.
Allice said: ‘As mental health for teenagers is important, I thought that my image was a good interpretation. I think that the composition portrays the fear and vulnerability behind the girl’s hidden hands, while the mental incarceration surrounds her.

‘I participated as I wanted to spread awareness and share the expression on the challenges of mental health during this time.’
Fellow A level Photography student, Hollie Long named her photograph, ‘Finn in Window’, while Ollie Robinson named his image as Untitled – depicting ‘lost time trapped in a virtual world’.
The students’ lecturer, Paul Williams, commented: ‘This has been a difficult time for all students, but this has been a wonderful opportunity to allow creativity to still thrive. It’s great to see how these students have captured the experiences of lockdown from their own perspective.’

The exhibition runs from 4 to 19 June and is being coordinated by the Sixth Form College Association. It celebrates the arts and recognises the importance of promoting the artists of the future. Over 140 students from 45 colleges submitted their photos.
