Two students from King's Academy Brune Park in Gosport received some truly out-of-this-world news!!

The school received the incredible announcement that two of their brilliant Year 8 students, Max Stocks and George Baul, have been awarded fully funded scholarships to attend the prestigious Space Camp in Alabama, USA, this July!

This phenomenal opportunity sees Max and George selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants from across the entire country. They were recognised for their outstanding teamwork, their unwavering dedication to STEM subjects, and their immense potential to become future leaders and innovators in science and technology.

Max, clearly ecstatic about the news, exclaimed, "I am over the moon. It is amazing! I love space!"

This incredible journey for Max and George is a direct result of their participation in the JET Blue Skies programme, run by the Jon Egging Trust (JET). JET is dedicated to empowering young people who may face various barriers to learning, helping them to develop crucial social and emotional skills such as communication, resilience, and leadership. Their programmes are designed to re-engage students with education and inspire them to achieve their full potential.

At King’s Academy Brune Park, inclusion is at the heart of the school ethos. Every student, especially those who are most vulnerable, deserves access to life-changing opportunities that allow them to discover what they are truly capable of. Through programmes like JET Blue Skies, the school is able to strive to bridge the gap between inherent potential and tangible opportunity, empowering students to dream bigger and reach for the stars.

But this opportunity could not have happened without the dedicated staff who are planning and facilitating these programmes and events in the school. Jennie Anderson, a science teacher at Brune Park, has worked tirelessly with JET to support the students and ensure the smooth facilitation of the JET Blue Skies programme at King’s Academy Brune Park. She shared her immense pride, stating she was "blown away by the dedication and enthusiasm the students have shown during the course of the program." Her relentless commitment has been instrumental in making opportunities like this a reality for our students.

The Headteacher, Kerry Payne, expressed her profound joy, saying, "This is a truly fantastic opportunity for the students at King's Academy Brune Park. It brings me tears of joy to see the hard work and dedication from our staff and students come to fruition." Her words perfectly encapsulate the pride and excitement felt across the entire school community.

We are incredibly excited for Max and George as they prepare to represent King’s Academy Brune Park and the UK at Space Camp. The school community will be eagerly awaiting their return, keen to hear all about their adventures in Alabama and witness how this transformative experience will help launch their future STEM careers.
