College first- to-try course

STUDENTS at South Downs College spearheaded an innovational vocational course which will now be rolled out nationally.

The Active IQ Tech Level Diploma is a qualification for careers in the leisure and fitness industry, with students gaining credentials for jobs such as personal training.

South Downs College in Waterlooville was the first college to trial the two-year diploma last year and following its success the programme is now being offered out to 37 institutions in the UK.

James Florance, course manger at South Downs College, said: ‘I was hugely impressed by the scope of the qualification which was vastly better than anything else I’ve ever seen in the sector.’
