Ofsted, which is a governing body, can issue one of four ratings following a school inspection – outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate. If a school receives a ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’ rating it will be monitored by Ofsted to ensure that progress is made to guarentee improvements.

Across Portsmouth and its surrounding areas including Havant, Waterlooville and Gosport, there are a number of schools that have received a ‘requires improvement’ or ‘inadequate’ rating from Ofsted over the past few years. In some cases, these schools have had monitoring visits from Ofsted which has found that there are improvements being made.

9. Brune Park School, Gosport
Brune Park Community School in Gosport has an Ofsted rating of inadequate in most recent inspection which was published on July 31, 2023. 10. Bridgemary School, Gosport

11. King's Academy Bay House School, Gosport
King's Academy Bay House School in Gosport has an Ofsted rating of requires improvement and the inspection was published on January 25, 2023. A monitoring visit on February 8, 2024 found that there is progress being made to make improvements to the school. 12. Releasing Potential Havant
Releasing Potential received a requires improvement Ofsted rating following its inspection which took place on January 25, 2024. The schoolhad an additional inspection on June 19, 2024 and it found that the school is making progress but there is still a long way to go until it becomes a good Ofsted rated school. Photo: Google
