Weight loss brings a new career for Leah
For years I was stuck in a cycle that so many people will recognise, writes Leah Claypole.
I was tired all the time, struggling with menopause, and constantly saying, “I’ll start on Monday.” I tried every diet going — they’d last a few days, then I’d be back where I started. I always had plans to get healthier… but nothing ever really changed.
The wake up call came when I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and my doctor referred me to Slimming World through the GP 12-week free referral scheme. It gave me the push I needed — and in just 7 months I lost 3.5 stone.
From my very first group session, I felt something different. The support from my consultant Jane and the warmth of staying to group gave me belief I could succeed when I didn’t have any. I wasn’t judged, I wasn’t pressured — I was supported, understood and encouraged.
Food Optimising opened my eyes to how much you can eat while still losing weight. I discovered a real passion for cooking proper, satisfying, everyday food — and for the first time in my life, I felt in control around food instead of fighting with it.
The changes went far beyond the scales. I feel 10 years younger. I’ve fallen back in love with clothes shopping — something I used to dread. I have more confidence than I ever thought possible.
Slimming World didn’t just change my body — it changed my life. It gave me the courage to leave a job I’d been in for 11 years and start a whole new career as a consultant, so I can support others to feel the way I do now.
I truly believe that if I can do it, anyone can — and there’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone realise that for themselves.
