Denmead Grange Care Home is a warm and very welcoming place with a full social and activities calendar for all residents, however this week the excitement has ratcheted up and reached ‘another level’. They have had the arrival of elves in the building and there has certainly been a touch of happy mayhem!

For the Denmead Grange generation ‘Elf on a Shelf’ wasn’t a thing from their childhood, but everyone can embrace the mischief and merriment that elves can create. Indeed, the Activities lead Vicky Burgess has a fantastic array of engaging games to ensure that the fun and frivolity ensued.

The home went ‘all out’ for Elf Day with costumes, silly hats, jingle bells and festive sparkles. The day started with an elf hunt (great for mobility and exercise), then there was elf racing and games (cognitively stimulating, physically challenging and certainly all the laughter muscles had a great work out!).

This has given great conversational fodder, lots of discuss and share at meal times and beyond and now the home has some elf hiding competition for their ever popular Happy Hens!

Denmead Grange offers so much that simply can’t be as readily achieved at home. The daily vast range of beneficial social aspects and variety of gently challenging, creative and stimulating activities; games and the shared fun, silliness and laughter that supports residents, on so very many levels.

Creating so many moments of joy through laughter and involvement is one of the many reasons Denmead Grange is such a happy home.

Abbie Johnston, General Manager of Denmead Grange commented: “We are just delighted to be elf aware and they have brought a happy little mischief to our warm and welcoming home! We have a full events schedule, with something for everyone and to see the engagement and pure delight from the elf-based games was utterly joyous, the laughter was completely infectious and certainly more mince pies were consumed afterwards!

"If you are looking for a festive respite break for a loved one or yourself, don’t hesitate to call us, we are here to help. Or simply pop by just to feel even more Christmassy! ’

Denmead Grange care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Denmead Grange provides residential and dementia care for 60 residents from respite care to long term stays.
