The same organisers are responsible for a weekly Thursday gathering! Each Thursday lunchtime there is a very special lunch group of Seniors. They meet at the Old School Hall Denmead Community Centre and are supported by some exceptional volunteers, headed up and organised by the incredible Suzie Dennett.
A happy time is spent enjoying a warming and generous home cooked meal, with good company and much chatter and laughter.
Well, this week was the Christmas meal celebration and frankly; ‘it had bells on’ .
As parties go – and as stated Denmead Grange has a nose for these things – it was a cracker. The musical entertainment was faultless throughout – the joyous ‘Melody makers’ entertained and delighted. The festively attired volunteers prepared and served a hot and wonderfully tasty full festive feast – Turkey, roasties and all the trimmings, with extra jugs of gravy and sprouts with chestnuts.
An incredible plateful was served to all the seniors and then all the volunteers were included with cooks, hostesses, drivers and helpers. There was a bar with wine and baileys on offer, some homemade trifles or Christmas puds available, with lashings of cream, they even generously sent some plates to those at home and even extras to an afterschool club for local teenagers to wolf down.
With presents and beautifully decorated tables, a wonderful raffle, cards and greetings, everyone left warm, happy, feeling very loved, appreciated and certainly well fed. It is an enormous undertaking for the entire team, over 64 people were beautifully fed and left feeling proud to be part of this vibrant and happy community. Denmead is such a special village, full of caring individuals who put themselves out and make a difference. Thank you to one and all, it is just great to see such good things in our community, especially at this time of year.
