Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties has donated over £1,500 worth of food to foodbanks across the region just in time for Christmas.

Up to £250 worth of food was donated to each foodbank to help give a boost to their services for Christmas, including Hope for Food in Bournemouth, Bognor Regis Foodbank, Gillingham Foodbank, Winchester Basics Bank in Winnall, and Nourish in Blandford Forum. The housebuilder ordered food based on each foodbank’s requests of what items they needed most, with many preparing Christmas-themed parcels so that those using the foodbanks’ services can enjoy festive treats as well as the essentials.

Fareham Foodbank and Didcot Emergency Foodbank also both received a £250 monetary donation to go towards their food shops.

Angus Kirk, Operations Manager at Winchester Basics Bank, said: “On behalf of everyone at Winchester Food and Basics Bank, we would like to thank Taylor Wimpey for this kind donation, which will bring joy to families over the Christmas period.

“This week we have provided 315 children with holiday lunch bags to compensate for the fact that the schools are closed over Christmas. This donation has helped us to provide some Christmas treats that they may otherwise not have had.”

Helen Weaver, Project Manager at Gillingham Foodbank, said: “Thank you to Taylor Wimpey for its donation, which weighed 320kg.

“Gillingham Foodbank serves the locality of Gillingham and its surrounding 10 mile radius, supporting those who are in food poverty. We use donated food to make emergency food boxes and bags of at least nine meals, along with other essentials such as fresh food, pet food, household cleaning items, personal hygiene items, and access to emergency help with fuel. During this time of the year, we also give out Christmas hampers to local families.”

Liddy Blunden, Operations Manager at Bognor Regis Foodbank, said: “A big thank you to Taylor Wimpey for its generous donation of 65.25kg of food. It will make a huge difference to our clients.”

Roz Wells, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said: “We are proud to have supported all of these foodbanks with our donations. With Christmas being a particularly difficult time for those facing financial hardship during the cost of living crisis, it’s important that people can still join in on the festivities without having to worry about food poverty, which these foodbanks are determined to support.”
