Cash for Kids South Coast is calling on 100 Portsmouth businesses, schools and community groups to raise £100,000 for vulnerable children as part of the city’s Portsmouth100 celebrations.

The charity is asking each organisation to aim for £1,000, with every penny raised in Portsmouth staying in the area to support local children.

While Cash for Kids operates nationally, all money raised in Portsmouth stays in Portsmouth to support local children. It’s a city in which Cash for Kids has made a massive impact. In 2025 alone, Cash for Kids raised around £190k for children in Portsmouth and its 2025 Christmas campaign saw 18,992 Christmas presents donated to children in the city, with 4,748 children each receiving four presents.

Government data shows more than one in five children in Portsmouth are living in poverty, compared to 18.5% across the UK. With 2026 marking 100 years since Portsmouth became a city, the charity says the milestone provides a powerful opportunity to give back, according to Lisa Congdon, Cash for Kids:

“Portsmouth is such a fantastic city and with the 100th birthday celebrations, city of culture bid and seafront redevelopment, it feels like a city that’s on the rise. But there are still children that desperately need our help and what better way is there to celebrate 100 years of Portsmouth than by giving back to the community that makes the city what it is?

“We want to attract 100 businesses and schools in the city, and we don’t mind whether they fundraise individually or in teams, attempt sporting challenges and fitness events, or run cake sales. What’s important is that every single fundraiser will make a real difference to the local children who need it most.”

Portsmouth100 will feature a year-long programme of civic, cultural and community events celebrating the city’s past, present and future. Events will include civic ceremonies and cultural showcases, and creative installations and community-led activities.

Cash for Kids helps the children that need it most to access opportunities, experiences, and support they might otherwise miss out on, and its £100K for 100 years campaign will run throughout 2026.
