In pictures: Paint the Park art competition highlights Gosport's natural beauty

Local artist ThirteenEight organised the event

A live painting competition was held by a local artist to celebrate the beauty of Gosport’s Stanley Park.

Paint the Park is inspired by the Landscape Artist of the Year competition, which Tom Roberts, known by his moniker ThirteenEight, competed in as a wild card entry this year.

“Filming in London, I wanted to bring that into Gosport and actually showcase the beauty of where we live,” he said.

“Stanley Park is a beautiful hidden gem. A lot of people don't know that the park exists.”

The competition saw local artists pick a spot in the park to paint over the course of four hours using whatever media they prefer. Artists could use whatever media they wanted, and competitors this year utilised a range of materials from oil paints to spray paint.

“The number one thing is that everyone has been painting Stanley Park and not one single piece of artwork is the same,” said Tom.

All the artwork produced on the day will be on display at The Alverbank hotel until September 20.

“The idea is that this is year one,” said Tom. “Next year we are going to move on and make this a bigger event each year.”
