Due to demand from Gosport children who want to get outdoors and take part in activities and adventure the 4th Gosport Scout Group has opened and will soon be meeting in Fort Brockhurst.

They are opening Squirrels (4–6-year-olds), Beavers (6–8-year-olds), Cubs (8–10-year-olds) and Scouts (10–14-year-olds) meaning more young people from the area will be making friends, building their confidence, and gaining skills that will prepare them for life and work.

The team have organised an open day on Saturday 24th January from 10am to midday at Fort Brockhurst, Gunner Way, PO12 4DS for those interested in joining and finding out more.

The team of volunteers will share their plans for the year ahead. They have an active programme that will provide children with new activities, camps, and challenges whilst they make memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Scouts offers more than 200 activities, from outdoor adventures and creative arts to community projects and technical challenges. Whether it’s hiking, building robots, or launching a social action project, Scouts provides a safe, supportive place to grow.

In a recent poll 94% of Scouts said they had developed useful skills, 95% said they’ve tried activities they haven’t tried before and 85% said they are happier since joining.

Dwayne Fields, adventurer, TV presenter and Chief Scout said: “It’s so important that young people have a chance to get outdoors and to feel wet grass under their feet and a little mud on their hands. Living and working together with others at camp and on outdoor activities helps build an adventure spirit, respect and grit - all key life skills”

There are also opportunities for adults to join in the fun and make all the difference to young lives …and feel great. Volunteer Alan said ‘’Whether you want to work with young people directly or help behind the scenes as a Trustee, there's something for everyone at Scouts. What’s really needed is a smile, patience, and willingness to share a little time to help others. Volunteers say they get back ten times what they put in – including new skills, new friends, and a renewed sense of the difference they can make when people work together.’’
