Home-made food is making a difference at Hayling Island care home

Home-made food is making a difference to the residents at a Hayling Island care home.
Wimborne Care Home on Hayling Island is known as a care home where the level of care extends to every small detail. With 47 beds, residents with a wide variety of needs and a highly skilled work force, everyday offers new opportunities for activity, fun, companionship and good times. Never more so than at meal times. Wimborne, on Selsmore Road, is rightfully very proud of their two chefs.
Head chef Hayden Jones and second chef Anthony Wyeth are masters of their craft, making delicious food, from scratch every day. Using fresh ingredients with a seasonal menu incorporating traditional favourites and dishes that represent favourites from many of Wimborne’s residents well-travelled lives.
A regular hit is Hayden’s homemade lasagne, a firm favourite it is simply always a winner. This month there has been a wide variety of warming and nutritious soups, comforting casseroles, delicious roasts, rib lining puddings and the lightest of cakes and sponges. When residents have families visit, they often arrange for them to stay for meals and the feedback is consistently highly appreciative and full of praise. Sitting in a dining area with tablecloths, good company and flavourful fresh food served with a smile, what’s not to love!

As a mixed residential and dementia care home on Hayling, where there is no use of agency staff, all food is freshly prepared and where there is a full daily activities programme, Wimborne is unique. Hayden would claim his recipe for lasagne is too, but with repeated requests some of the residents reckon they have worked it out!
Stephen Stace, Peri General Manager of Wimborne commented: “We are so proud of our exceptional Chef Team here at Wimborne, they help to make every day special for our residents and that is really what we aim to do. They listen to residents, take on board ideas and every day the menus are utterly mouth watering! I too have sampled the dishes and been blown away by the tastiness of everything I have enjoyed.’
Wimborne care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals. Wimborne provides residential and dementia care for 47 residents from respite care to long term stays.
