Home Instead Portsmouth is celebrating five years of supporting older people across the city to live safely, confidently and happily in their own homes.

Founded in 2021 by Franchise Owner Helen Brown, the organisation has grown into one of Portsmouth’s most highly regarded home care providers. It holds a CQC Outstanding rating and a 10/10 review score on Homecare.co.uk — the highest possible rating based on independent family feedback. The team has also recently been awarded a 5* Employer Award from WorkBuzz, recognising its positive workplace culture and support for Care Professionals.

For Helen, however, the milestone is about people rather than accolades.

“I may have opened the doors in 2021,” she says, “but what we’ve built has been a genuine team effort. Families invite us into their homes at very vulnerable times. The trust they place in us is something we never take lightly.”

She speaks warmly of the office team behind the scenes — Emma, who leads care with compassion and steady leadership; Kate, who focuses on nurturing and supporting the team; and her sons Isaac and Sam, who have grown alongside the organisation, helping shape recruitment, development and care coordination.

“One of the greatest joys has been watching people grow in confidence and step into their strengths,” Helen adds. “That includes our leadership team and our wider Care Professional community.”

Beyond delivering specialist dementia and end-of-life care at home, Home Instead Portsmouth also runs free dementia awareness sessions for families, community groups and organisations, including Gunwharf Quays, helping to build a more inclusive and dementia-aware Portsmouth.

“Five years represents hundreds of families supported, countless conversations shared and thousands of hours of care delivered,” Helen reflects. “But more than that, it represents connection. And that’s what truly matters.”
