Havant youth centre revitalised by leading Interconnect manufacturer and national construction partner

Leading Interconnect manufacturer Harwin and their construction partner Knights Brown have come together to help bring a new lease of life to a youth and community hub in Leigh Park. Run by youth work charity Motiv8 this space offers support to young people between the ages of 9 - 19.

A community with significant rates of deprivation, challenges around anti-social behaviour, and where young people have lower rates of education outcomes Motiv8’s Havant hub is a vital oasis at the heart of this community. With the team operating in the area for more than 15 years this new home is an exciting next chapter in their delivery.

Taken over by the charity in 2024, and revitalised over the last year including with the Comserv Community Kitchen and Fair Ways Wellbeing room, it now offers daily activities for young people and families including youth hubs and clubs’ multiple nights a week.

The space however, which had been largely empty for an extended period and was at risk of closure before the charity took over the space, needed refreshing. By helping bring the building back to life Harwin and Knights Brown have helped create professional youth work space ready to serve a community for another generation.

On taking over the space Motiv8 CEO Kirsty Robertson was clear that...

  • We are proud to be a part of the community in Leigh Park.
  • We make long term commitments to our communities, places that have been underinvested in for too long.
  • We want this to become a haven for all people in our community but in particular, younger people who can feel like they have a great accessible space in their community once again.

Harwin have been partners of the charity for the last two years. Together they have engaging in a wide variety of fundraising activities and supported the development of skills among those at risk of falling out of education including through the Harwin Academy.

Speaking on behalf of Harwin, Ben Green said: "We're proud to support such a dedicated local charity. Together we are committed to creating brighter, more confident futures for young people.

"While Harwin works all over the globe we have strong routes in the community and our teams jumped at the chance to play their part in ensuring this vital community resource is fit for purpose."

Ringwood-based Knights Brown, who are the lead construction partner for Harwin’s new £30m manufacturing facility in Farlington said: "Since meeting Motiv8 we have seen the potential of what they do. Like us they believe in creating accessible, impactful programmes that improve communities.

"We have been delighted to play out part and contribute to this lasting legacy."
