A Hampshire accountancy firm is staging a free online seminar to update charities on the latest financial developments and regulatory changes across the sector.

Senior staff at HWB Chartered Accountants will host the online breakfast-time/morning event from 8.30am to 9.30am on Tuesday, April 21. The seminar will include a Charity Commission update, plus tax reminders, FRS102 leases/income recognition and charity accounting (including SORP 2026) among its topics.

Senior staff Michaela Johns and Matt Cooper, both Directors; Alan Davies & Matt Pickett, Business Advisors; Alan Rolfe, Senior Tax Manager, are behind the event.

Michaela said: “We are in a significant period of change. Charities are facing more challenges than ever in 2026 and we felt it appropriate, as a specialist charity and not-for-profit accountancy firm, to stage this event.

“It is incumbent upon us to keep across the myriad of changes and amendments within the legislation and regulations and pass these on to help ensure charities remain compliant.

“With decreases in government funding and the increased cost of living hitting donations, charities also have to think outside the box – and we feel any assistance we can give will be welcome.”

Major issues to be covered include:

  • Tax developments tightening rules on donations and reporting
  • FRS 102 introducing substantial shifts in lease accounting
  • SORP 2026 modernising charity reporting through tiered disclosures and enhanced transparency
  • Sector pressures requiring strong governance, financial planning and communication

Latest Charity Commission figures show there are 185,699 charities in the UK, of which around 78,000 are in the zero to £10,000 income bracket, with 57,000 (£10,000 to £100,000), around 23,000 (£100,000 to £500,000), fewer than 10,000 (£500,000 to £1m) and just 2,300 (£1m to £5m). There are 15,166 linked charities and 942,063 trustee positions
