Gosport Half Marathon
At 10am on Sunday 17th November the hooter will blast in Browndown Road for the start of the thirty ninth Gosport Half Marathon when approximately one thousand and three hundred runners from all over the UK will begin the 13.1 mile course.
The race is part of the Hampshire Road Race League and many of the fastest runners in Hampshire will be participating.
It is the highlight of the year for the Gosport Road Runners who organise this race. For one weekend in the year, club members, will give their time to organise a popular UK Athletics event and to raise money for charities and good causes.
Over the years the race has evolved into a great community event. To host a race of this size, it requires the combined support of our members, eight local youth groups, Radio Haslar and the Big Noise Samba Band.

The youth groups enjoy the day and their enthusiasm towards the runners and their willingness to help, create a great community atmosphere.
This year the finishers of the main event will receive a medal that celebrates Gosport’s maritime heritage.
A good place to watch is along Lee-on-the-Solent promenade between Elmore and Monks Hill Car Parks where the runners will pass spectators on four occasions.
In conjunction with the Gosport Half Marathon children under the age of 17 years are being invited to take part in two age category running events before the start of the main event.
- An under 12 children’s Fun Run which will start at 9am - distance 1km.
- An under 17 Challenge Race which will start at 9.15 - distance 2km.
For all the children and young people there will be a mass warm up to music starting at 8.45am (Parents/Guardians of young children can join in). For the Fun Run only we hope to have some dinosaurs running with the children.
The best represented school or club on the day will receive £500 from Gosport Road Runners to purchase sporting equipment of their choice.
Entry for the children’s events is £2.00 payable by cash on the day. There is a goody bag and medal for every finisher and special trophies for the first three boys and girls in each event.
Every entrant will be given a race number and their finishing time digitally recorded. Results will be displayed on the website shortly after the event.
Race Headquarters for the main and children’s events is at Bay House School sports field, Gomer Lane, Gosport, PO12 2QP.
