Cremer Mall in Fareham is set to be illuminated pink today (October 23) in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Fareham Borough Council is lighting up the shopping area on West Street in pink, the internationally recognised colour of breast cancer awareness, to join communities around the world in recognising patients, survivors, families and health professionals.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. According to Cancer Research UK, breast cancer accounts for 15% of all new cancer cases in the UK, with around 59,500 new cases recorded every year.

Awareness campaigns play an important role in encouraging people to recognise the signs and symptoms, attend screening appointments when invited, and seek medical advice if they have any concerns.

Councillor Simon Martin, Executive Leader for Fareham Borough Council, said: “Breast Cancer Awareness month is an important opportunity to raise awareness of a disease that affects so many individuals and families.

“By illuminating Cremer Mall, we can show support for those affected by breast cancer, honour survivors, remember loved ones, and encourage people to access information, screening and support services when needed. We hope to spark conversations, encourage greater awareness, and demonstrate support for everyone impacted by breast cancer within our community.”
