Berewood Panthers Youth Football Club Receives The King’s Award for Voluntary Service
Volunteers from Berewood Panthers Youth Football Club have been honoured with The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS), the highest recognition a local voluntary group can receive in the UK. Often described as “the MBE for volunteer groups,” the award celebrates outstanding contributions by volunteers to their communities.
Founded in 2015, Berewood Panthers provides football opportunities for children of all abilities in Portsmouth, Waterlooville, and the surrounding areas. The club is proud to offer free, inclusive sessions, including the Pan Programme for children with disabilities. Thanks to the dedication of 50 volunteers, every child is welcome to play, make friends, and build confidence.
Berewood Panthers also works closely with other professionals—such as social workers, healthcare providers, and support workers—responding to requests to ensure that children from mainstream and those with additional needs or barriers have the opportunity to play football and be part of the club.

Ian Hurry, Berewood Secretary, said: “Berewood Panthers is all about giving every child—whatever their ability—the chance to play football, make friends, and grow in confidence. From our mainstream teams to our Pan Programe, children with disabilities, those facing financial barriers, or anyone who just wants to play can enjoy football and be part of our football family. We’re proud to make a positive impact in Portsmouth, Waterlooville and the surrounding areas.”
