An incredible transformation: Fratton woman's Slimming World success

When Pippa Gadd first walked through the doors of a Slimming World group at St Margaret’s Church in March 2025, she had no idea just how life-changing the next six months would be.
Now a proud member of Lacey’s Fratton group, Pippa has achieved an extraordinary milestone — losing an incredible 5 stone 1.5lbs to reach her dream target weight in November.
What makes Pippa’s journey even more special is the timing. She joined Slimming World shortly before getting engaged and went on to marry on 4th October 2025, feeling healthier and more confident.
For Pippa, there wasn’t one single “final straw” that pushed her to join — instead, it was a gradual realisation that something needed to change. She found herself avoiding photos at special occasions, feeling upset by how she looked, and struggling with sports she loved as joint pain crept in. Energy levels were low, with sugar and caffeine replacing genuine wellbeing. Quietly but clearly, she knew it was time to put herself first.
A key part of Pippa’s success has been embracing Slimming World’s optimising approach. She explains that simple food swaps made the biggest impact. By being more mindful of portion sizes and hidden extras like oils and sauces, she discovered how quickly small changes add up. Swapping ketchup for hot sauce, oil-based dressings for vinegar-based ones, and choosing air-frying over extra oil helped her stay on track — all without feeling restricted. Careful tweaks with bread and dairy, especially cheese, meant she could still enjoy the foods she loved while moving steadily toward her goal.
Like many members, Pippa faced challenges along the way. The hardest part was the repetition of meals, especially when cooking for one and trying to avoid food waste. With limited freezer space, she often ate the same meals for several days to keep things balanced and manageable — a challenge she met with determination and consistency.
The rewards have been profound. Today, Pippa can enjoy social occasions without feeling self-conscious or distracted by insecurity. She’s more confident, more present, and genuinely enjoying time with friends and family again. That renewed confidence isn’t just about appearance — it’s about how she feels in herself.
The health benefits have been just as powerful. Pippa now sleeps better, wakes up refreshed, and has noticed improvements in her skin and joint pain. Exercise feels more manageable, with steadier breathing and heart rate, allowing her to enjoy being active again. Above all, she feels stronger, healthier, and more connected to her body.
Pippa’s journey is a shining example of what’s possible with support, consistency and self-belief. Her achievement isn’t just about the weight she’s lost — it’s about the life she’s gained. An inspiration to her fellow members and a reminder that small, sustainable changes really can lead to extraordinary results.
