A TV personality In Purbrook?
Yes, that is correct!
The Purbrook Horticultural Society welcomed award winning TV Presenter [Gardeners' World; Chelsea Flower Show; Great British Garden Revival and The One Show to name but a few] best selling Author; Freelance Horticulturist and Garden Designer, Nick Bailey to our monthly meeting.
The monthly meetings held on the first Thursday of the month at Deverell Hall, London Road are free to members and showcase a variety of topics not all of which are Garden related but this one is particular was highly anticipated. Nick gave a beautifully illustrated talk on "365 Days of Colour In the Garden" giving advice on how to achieve not only colour throughout the Gardening year but tips on planting and pruning to prolong flowering periods and even twice blooming of common Garden plants.
Nick's talk certainly brightened up a wet Autumn evening and gave members ideas to improve their own Gardens and as many were too engrossed to take notes, Nick brought along copies of his best selling book to purchase, even signing with a personal message.
A diary of further events, along with benefits of the £5 per annum per household membership fee are detailed on the web site www.purbrookhorticulturalsociety.org.uk or in person at the Trading Store situated on London Road Purbrook adjacent to the allotments and open Saturday mornings from 930-1130.
So, if in the coming months you are passing a Garden that has unexpected colour or range of planting then it probably belongs to a member of the Purbrook Horticultural Society who attended Nick's talk!
