'Thank you from the bottom of our hearts': Stamshaw Tandoori makes 'difficult decision' to close after 37 years
Takeaway closes after more than three decades
After decades of serving up tasty dishes, an Indian takeaway has announced it has ‘made the difficult decision to officially close’.
Stamshaw Tandoori, in Twyford Avenue, has taken to social media to inform its customers it will no longer operate after being part of Portsmouth’s food scene since 1989.

The takeaway said it is “grateful to every single person who has supported us over the years. So many of you would come through the door not just to order, but simply to have a chat, have a laugh and catch up.”
It continued: “Those moments meant more to us than you probably ever realised. The community we became part of was truly amazing. The togetherness, kindness and support we experienced will always stay with us.
“We worked incredibly hard, put our hearts into what we did, and through it all, it was always about love. Although our journey with the business has come to an end, we will always look back with appreciation for the people we met and the memories we made.”
The reasoning behind the closure is unknown but the family-run takeaway said “sometimes life takes you down a different path, but every ending can be the beginning of something new”.
The “gutting” news has come as a shock to the business’s customers who have described it as “such a shame” to lose their “favourite Indian takeaway”.
Stamshaw Tandoori’s social media post added: “Never give up in life, no matter what... Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything. We wish every one of you and your families nothing but happiness, health and success for the future.”
