Spinnaker Tower’s famous glass floor is replaced by specialist engineers working at jaw-dropping heights
The glass on the viewing platform has been replaced
The Spinnaker Tower’s famous Sky Walk glass floor have been replaced by specialist engineers working 100 metres from the ground.
The team worked with precision to handle the huge panels hundreds of feet above Portsmouth Harbour this week, with each of the four glass panels of the viewing platform weighing an incredible 292 kg with a thickness of 60mm.
A spokesperson for the popular attraction said: “After years of millions of footsteps, countless selfies and plenty of people nervously shuffling across it, the glass panels had become scratched from everyday wear and tear, so we’ve replaced them to keep the experience looking its absolute best for visitors.

“The replacement was purely cosmetic and part of our ongoing investment in maintaining the Tower experience to the highest standard. You can still stand 100 metres above Portsmouth Harbour with nothing but glass beneath your feet!”
The landmark attraction at Gunwharf Quays has welcomed millions of visitors since it opened to the public on October 18, 2005.
