Southsea Beach Café has confirmed that it will be moving to Clarence Esplanade.

Set to open in May 2026, the new Southsea Beach Café will take over the former site of The Beach Club (previously Mozzarella Joes), which closed in October 2024 following essential sea defence works. The site is currently undergoing an extensive renovation, transforming it into a vibrant, reimagined space that builds on everything customers know and love.

The Southsea Coastal Scheme will begin its works from Speaker’s Corner to St. George’s Road in late 2026, causing the original Southsea Beach Café, on Eastney Esplanade to close as a result.

Both the original Southsea Beach Café and the new site will operate simultaneously until at least the end of 2026, ensuring a smooth and thoughtful transition for customers, staff, and the wider community.

Once work begins, the original café will close. However, the team intends to be involved in the future of the original site, whatever that looks like.

Toby Woodfine, co-founder of Southsea Beach Café said: “The new location has given us the opportunity to create something fresh and exciting, taking inspiration from famous European beach bars and cafés, while staying true to our spirit of relaxed, high-quality hospitality.

“Guests can expect the same familiar faces, warm welcome, and community-focused ethos that Southsea Beach Café is known for, alongside an upgraded setting designed to enhance the seafront experience.

“We’re excited to make new memories in a new location with the same people who supported us from the very beginning.”

The move will allow the owners of Southsea Beach Café to invest further into the city and its people, by creating new and exciting work opportunities for local people and businesses.

Further announcements and behind-the-scenes updates will be shared as plans progress.
