A family-run business has opened its fourth store in the Portsmouth area as it continues to grow in popularity.
Jon said: “We are a unique company because of the recycling we do. As a family we try and recycle and stop things from going to landfill. There is too much rubbish being chucked away. This is our fourth shop now as a family run business. The idea of our shops is to give things a second chance, furniture, beds, sofas, anything we can recycle we will.”
The new store in Cosham has a slightly different layout to their other stores with customers responding positively to the changes.
Jon said: “We have had a big response from every shop that we have opened, this one is a bit different to the high street shops because you have more footfall there. You do get footfall here but this is a lot different to our other stores as we are doing room layouts, a bit like a second-hand IKEA. So people can see what it looks like laid out instead of it all being on the shelf.”
Reflecting on the popularity of his stores, Jon believes the current economic climate as well as a push towards more environmentally friendly practices has helped.
“However, the old furniture it lasts forever, a lot of the furniture we have here has been through the war. People like the retro look again and we have pieces here from the 1960s.”
The new layout is not the only thing that makes The Junk Emporium on the Roundabout different to Jon’s other stores.
“We have the furniture side and also the carpet side,” he said, “We have been selling carpets for four or five years but we have now gone bigger and better with it. Good quality new carpets at a reasonable price.
“I am really excited by this shop, it is our best by far. We are getting a lot of response from it but there is still lots to do and we are tweaking things but I am excited, big things are going to happen with this shop.”
