New contemporary Indian restaurant focussing on quality food and fresh ingredients to open in Southsea
A new Indian restaurant serving “good quality” food made with fresh ingredients is opening in Southsea.
Having seen the opportunity of moving into the Osborne Road unit, he jumped at the chance.
Shahid said: “We saw an opportunity at a nice site in a good location and decided to go for it. What we are going for is fine Indian cuisine using fresh ingredients and a more healthier style of cooking. I think there is a market for it in the area and being in Osborne Road I think that will draw a lot of people in.”

Osborne Road has seen a churn of eateries opening and closing over the past couple of years but Shahid has experience of making it work in the popular road. He has been running El Toro for eight years, establishing it alongside other eateries such as Algarve’s Grill and The Rocka Restaurant which have also managed to gain a firm footing in the road.
When Shahid heard that Snookies & Co were closing he didnt want to let the opportunity slip and got in contact with the owner.
He said: “I’m looking forward to opening. I want this road and all of the shops to be occupied so that it brings more people here. I hate to see the shops close because it makes the road look bad. I definitely didnt want to see this unit empty which is why we took it over.
“We want to open a restaurant that serves good quality food and provides good quality service.”
An opening date for Saffron Spice has not yet been confirmed but Shahid expects it be in the next three to four weeks. Having recently been renovated for Snookies & Co, major changes are not needed to the interior with just some alterations to the lighting and the kitchen required.
