'The staff are devastated': Ferryboat Inn to close as management departs following sale to new owners
A waterside pub is getting ready to close after being sold to new owners
Customers are bidding farewell to a beloved pub landlady as she prepares to leave after the site was sold to new owners.
Today marks The Ferryboat Inn’s final weekend of trading under its current management - Edwina - after the Hayling Island pub was sold to new owners.
The popular waterside venue, which was owned by the Stonegate Group, was put up for sale at the end of last year, with the pub saying “this means that Edwina will be leaving us.”

The Ferryboat posted on Facebook, saying: “The Ferryboat’s last day of trading under Edwina and Stonegate will be May 30 before reopening under the new owners at a later date. All of the staff are absolutely devastated to be losing such an amazing manager and friend.
“Over the years we have built a huge family here on Hayling, and that is all thanks to Edwina. During her 11 years here, she has brought so much to the island — from introducing tribute nights, creating the first outside fish bar, hosting the most successful fireworks party nights on Hayling, and so much more.
“Her hard work, dedication, and love for the pub and community will never be forgotten.
“We are all going to miss her so much, but we wish her nothing but happiness and success in whatever adventure she chooses next.”
Updates to follow.
