People in Portsmouth are being encouraged to consider switching from car to bus as fuel prices continue to rise, with new figures showing local bus services are among the best in England for customer satisfaction.

Stagecoach South has welcomed independent research from Transport Focus, which found that overall passenger satisfaction in Portsmouth stands at 91%, placing the area among the top-performing regions nationally.

With petrol and diesel prices predicted to climb towards £2 per litre in the coming weeks, many households are feeling the squeeze, and buses are offering a simple way to cut the cost of everyday travel.

TheYour Bus Journey survey, based on more than 50,000 passenger journeys, shows particularly strong results in Portsmouth.

These scores put Portsmouth ahead of many other areas across the country and well above the national average of 85%.

Switching even a few trips from car to bus, such as going to the gym, meeting friends, heading to the cinema, or going out for dinner, could make a noticeable difference to monthly budgets, especially as fuel costs continue to rise.

Passengers can also avoid additional costs such as parking and city centre charges, making bus travel an increasingly practical option for getting around Portsmouth.

Marc Reddy, Managing Director of Stagecoach South, said: “We’re really proud to see passengers in Portsmouth rating our services so highly.

“At a time when many people are looking for ways to save money, it’s great to know that local buses are not only affordable, but also reliable and a positive experience for our customers.

“These results also reflect the strong partnership we have with Portsmouth City Council through the Portsmouth Bus Enhanced Partnership, where we’re working together to invest in services and deliver real improvements for passengers across the area.”
