Portchester pet shop closes after more than 25 years of business - with neighbours set to take it over
The pet shop opened all the way back in 1995.
A pet shop that has been a high street mainstay for generations has closed its doors.
For decades, people in Portchester have been going to Petfayre to get food for their dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and more. But now, the West Street store, which originally opened in 1995, has shut down for good.

A note on the door indicates that the unit has already been sold - and will at least continue as a pet shop in some capacity.
Owner John Hancock said: “I am retiring, and the name Petfayre will become associated with Tiggys, here in West Street, who have acquired this trading name. They will continue to offer the range of products for all your pets and wild bird requirements.
“They will also offer a regular delivery service to the district.
“There may be one or two small problems while the transfer and setting up of services are carried out. Please be patient, Tiggys are determined to continue the service we have offered for tthe last 35 years and wish to retain you all as customers.”
Situated next door to the old Petfayre unit, Tiggys is a pet shop that specialises in natural, healthy, grain free and raw foods and treats as well as ethical / eco friendly products at value prices. The same store also offers grooming services, with qualified advisors and delivery for customers.
No timeframe has been established for when Tiggys will be opening the former Petfayre unit back up for customers - with the company rebranding to state it is “incorporating Petfayre”, the name might still remain in the precinct.
