Pictures capture the moment 432-tonne crane worth £3m arrives in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH’S waters are used to welcoming naval behemoths, commercial ferries, leisure craft and even the transportation of 80m-long wind turbine blades on occasions.

Now another huge piece of cargo has been added to that list of feats after a 432-tonne mobile crane was delivered to Portico.

The £3m lifting device was made in the Netherlands and will help the city port’s cargo operations by shifting as much as 250 tonnes per lift.

These pictures taken by Brian Gibbs, from Southsea, and Portsmouth City Council, document the giant’s arrival in the city.
