Lockheed Martin announces 15 work placements for Hampshire students for National Apprenticeship Week
Hampshire students in years 10 to 13 studying for T-Levels are being offered the chance to start a career in technology with global technology company Lockheed Martin.
To coincide with the start of National Apprenticeship Week, the company has announced 15 work-placement opportunities at its Havant facility, which delivers engineering, systems integration, training and support for the UK armed forces. Students will gain hands-on workplace experience in the workplace, helping them decide whether a future career in the sector is right for them.
Successful applicants will attend a four-day summer placement at Lockheed Martin’s Havant facility, working alongside technologists and subject matter experts to tackle hands-on engineering activities. The programme is designed to excite and inspire students in a way that develops deeper interest in STEM and address the persistent shortage of engineers as demand for skills continues to outpace the number of people entering the profession.
Katie, now a Level 4 commercial apprentice at Lockheed Martin, joined the company through a work-placement programme while studying for a T-Level in business management. “The placement showed me this was the right career path for me, gave me real insight into the business, and ultimately led to an apprenticeship offer. I have never looked back.”
T Level work placements are a mandatory part of T-Level qualifications, providing students with 315 hours — around 45 days — of industry experience. The placements are designed to combine classroom learning, which accounts for 80% of the qualification, with 20% practical, real-world experience, helping students develop current, job-ready skills with employers.
Applications open Wednesday, February 11 and close Tuesday, March 31. Interested students in Years 10 to 13 should apply by emailing [email protected] with a letter of interest outlining why they want to work at Lockheed Martin, what they hope to gain from a placement.
