Local Funeral Directors Brave 100ft Abseil to Support Rowans Hospice
A courageous team of local funeral directors took fundraising to new heights—literally—by abseiling 100 feet down the iconic Spinnaker Tower in support of The Rowans Hospice in Purbrook.
Staff from Solent Funeral Services, W. Wraight & Son, Carrells Funeral Service, and A.G. Stapleford & Sons joined forces for the daring descent, cheered on by hundreds of spectators, friends, and family members.
Among the participants was Helen Lamonby, Business Leader at Dignity Funerals, who also took part in the challenge.

She shared: “I am incredibly proud of the whole team, who are always looking for ways to actively support the communities they serve. I know each and every one of us was nervous about the abseil, but we did it—and raised £1,500 for this very worthy cause.”
Helen also extended heartfelt thanks to the local businesses that donated prizes for the Rowans Raffle, and to the public for their generous support throughout the fundraising campaign.
But the team’s efforts don’t stop there. In October, they’ll be swapping harnesses for running shoes as they take on the Great South Run, a 10-mile race through Portsmouth, continuing their mission to raise funds for Rowans Hospice.
