The discount supermarket has submitted a planning application to Fareham Borough Council seeking permission for the shop which will be build on land immediately north of the St Margaret’s Roundabout at the junction of the A27 Southampton Road and Cartwright Drive.

The triangular piece of land is now an overgrown former carpark, but previously contained temporary office accommodation which was used by Highways England.

“Parking will be provided for 120 cars, including seven disabled spaces, ten parent and child and two for electrical vehicle charging, as well as six spaces for motorcycles. Covered parking will also be provided for 12 bicycles.

“Vehicular access is proposed off Cartwright Drive, via a new priority junction located just north of the existing access.
“Staffing levels have yet to be finalised, however based on existing Lidl’s elsewhere the proposed store is likely to provide up to 40 new jobs (25-30 full time equivalent).”
