Late night alcohol licensing for "upmarket cocktail lounge" in Waterlooville under consideration

A bid to serve alcohol until the early hours is under consideration for a prospective “upmarket cocktail lounge” in Waterlooville.

A licence application has been submitted to Havant Borough Council for alcohol to be served at the bar between 8.30am and 2am Sunday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4am on Friday and Saturday. The licence also includes the request to play live and recorded music for the same hours.

In describing the premises, the application by Koyes Khan Holdings Ltd states it will be an “upmarket cocktail lounge” providing a “comfortable and welcoming environment for local residents and visitors”. It will offer an “elevated bar experience” and have a smart dress code to promote a “safe, respectful, and enjoyable atmosphere”. Live music will be on offer occasionally.

One local resident has raised objections to the application citing concerns over an increase in noise causing “significant disturbance” during late evening and night-time hours. The resident was also concerned it may lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related disturbances in the area.

To mitigate these issues the application states that the bar will have a “zero tolerance” policy with drunk and disorderly guests as well as drug use and violent/antisocial behaviour. CCTV will also monitor internal and external areas.

The licensing sub committee met on Wednesday, March 18 with a decision expected next week.
