"It's been tough but we've made it through": Southsea Brunch Klub licence reinstated following appeal
Southsea Brunch Klub licence reinstated after Portsmouth City Council reverses earlier decision on account of anti-social behaviour concerns.
Portsmouth City Council made the decision to revoke the brunch club’s licence earlier this year following concerns surrounding intoxicated customers partaking in anti-social behaviour.
Steve Hudson, the owner of the club, appealed the decision in March, and he has been working alongside the council and the police to make necessary changes to the business. As a result of these changes, the council has agreed to reinstate the club’s licence.
A spokesperson for the Portsmouth City Council said: “A court order was made by Portsmouth Magistrates Court to set aside appeal proceedings and to reinstate the licence by substituting agreed conditions on the premises licence.”

Some of the conditions outlined by the court state that all door staff must wear body worn video, the venue must cease the sale of alcohol at 11pm between Sunday and Thursday and 12pm on Friday and Saturday nights.
Steve said: “It has been tough and obviously it is companied with the economy but we have made it through. We have worked hard with the council and the police to get things right and we look forward to drawing a line under the past and getting on with the future.
“We have scaled back our opening hours so we close now at 12:30pm at the weekends and 11pm during the week. We have also softened the place up which is what we have done during the refurbishment.”
The club has also refurbished the venue to make it ‘softer’ and Steve said that the new look has gone down a treat with customers.
Steve added: “We have now got things like a girl night which is live music from female artists, we’ve got a Mamma Mia brunch, a Disney brunch, some 80s and 90s nights so all of our nights are going to be entertainment led.
“It is going well. Tickets are selling well and we have a lot of things coming up.”
