Inside Spice Island Inn after historic pub undergoes autumn refurbishment

Inside a newly refurbished pub

Old meets new at a harbourside pub which has undergone a meticulous refurbishment.

The Spice Island Inn, in Old Portsmouth, reopened on Friday, October 2 following an autumn refresh which has made the most of all the 18th century pub’s historic features, while carefully adding in some modern-day comforts.

Julio Da Silva, general manager of the Spice Island, said: “We are so lucky to have such an amazing spot with views out over the harbour. We are a great community pub which people love for all sorts of occasions, from a drink with friends to a meal with family.

“Our pub’s name stems from the fact this was one of the first places that spices from around the world landed and today we have food and drink menus to suit all tastes, diets and appetites. Customers have enjoyed great traditional hospitality here for hundreds of years and we are pleased to carry on that tradition. Come in and see our new look today.”

The Greene King pub, which has benefited from work inside and out, has new timber chairs and tables, parasols, signage and hanging baskets to boost the kerbside appeal too.

Inside, traditional features and contemporary comforts have been blended throughout the ground and first floor bar and dining areas to provide a warm, welcoming space for customers to enjoy.
